SADA Organization condemns the arrest of journalist Mazahim Bajaber by the authorities in Hadhramat

The National Organization of Yemeni Media Reporters "SADA" condemns the arrest of journalist Mazahim Bajaber, head of the Al-Ahqaf Media Platform, by a checkpoint affiliated with military formations in the Al-Adwas area of Hadhramaut governorate, while he was on his way to the city of Mukalla. The arrest was reportedly due to his media-related activities.

This arrest followed security directives calling for the forcible detention of three journalists, including Bajaber, as well as journalists Sabri bin Makhashen and Abduljabbar Omar Bajabeer, based on orders from the Specialized Criminal Prosecution.

The organization considers this action a blatant violation of press freedom and freedom of expression, and a breach of both national laws and international treaties that guarantee the right to free expression.

SADA expresses its deep concern over the continued arbitrary practices against journalists and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of journalist Bajaber. It also demands accountability for those responsible for his unlawful detention and calls for measures to prevent such violations in the future.

Furthermore, the organization urges all concerned parties — including the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, human rights organizations, and media institutions — to show solidarity with Bajaber and his fellow journalists, and to continue efforts to defend press freedom in Yemen.
